This year on March 31, Netflix released a Netflix original show “13 Reasons Why.” This show was based on the book “13 Reasons Why” by Jay Asher.

Since the release date, social media has been blowing up about how this is insightful to our lives as teenagers and high school students.

“This has been one of the most realistic shows about teen suicide, and high school in general that I have seen,” said student Sofia Herrera.

Like any book that has been turned into a movie or show, it made some changes. The plot remains the same and they have added some characters and new scenes to really bring everything into context. Compared to the book you only get one person’s perspective, the show allows you to dive deeper to the emotions of other characters.

The show is 13 episodes long, and if you haven’t watched it, people everywhere will beg you to. The show is so successful in fact, Netflix is debating on doing a second season to answer all unanswered questions.

The show is about the aftermath of a girl’s suicide, Hannah Baker. Before her suicide, she recorded 13 tapes which would be passed between the 13 people she blames for her death. Viewers get to hear the tapes alongside one of the teens blamed, Clay Jensen.

Each tape contains a heartbreaking story about what each person did to her, and every person gets to hear their own and everyone else’s. Clay patiently listens to Hannah’s chronicle about the agonizing events during her high school experience like assault, secrets, and false accusations.

“Every episode was a cliffhanger, I just had to watch the next one.” said Casey Hake.

This show, as good as it is, is not recommended to people who suffer from any mental illnesses that may have been originated from sexual assault, or suffering loss to suicide. It has been known to trigger a lot of people due to it being so intense. However, the show is addicting with people finishing it in as little as a day or two.
