Keys to Success is a program set out to give, good kids the opportunity to get recognized for their actions and get rewarded in it. This is done when kids are given key cards.

In order to get a key card the student has to show excellence in a particular area. Most kids get key cards at Hillcrest from perfect attendance because at the end of each quarter teachers are given cards to give to select students that had perfect attendance, totaling to four cards a year for perfect attendance. Other things that students have gotten cards for is all A’s in the class, super positive attitude or improvement in a subject.

In many ways the Hillcrest verge card system mirrors the Keys to Success system because you get the card for being good and then can redeem it for prizes. Each card you can redeem for a gift card and then get put into a drawing where when the yearly assembly comes around you can be entered to win the iPad they give out.

The assembly at Hillcrest took place on Tuesday, April 25, and was full of a bunch of games they do every year. While the assembly is mostly about getting the 50 contestants they pulled out of the card drawing it also has games and prizes that they pull members of the audience for. For example, they have the singing competition that Bennett Chew and Jeremiah Rogers won. The point of the game is to be given one word and think of a song with that word in it and sing it before the other team does.

Teachers are not left out on the fun and are put into random contests as well. Last year they had the teachers race around the gym on tricycles but this year Mr. Johnson and Mr. Peery were put into huge hamster balls and had to race each other around the gym.

Even though she was the last contestant to pick a key and usually would not have the chance to win, Jamie Egbert won the IPad and was put into the drawing for the statewide drawing of a car.
