Everyone has watched American Idol. Well Hillcrest has their very own Hillcrest Idol! This event is for those who auditioned and were chosen by the SBO’s and SBO adviser Josh Griffel to perform on the evening of December 18, 2018.

There were guest judges there to help decide on a winner, along with the SBOs. People from all different grades auditioned, and the top ten were chosen: Grace Zito, Caroline Ciet, Ryan Koon, Emma Thomas, Makayla Whetsel, Katie Seegrist, Chance Heise, Jeremiah Goates, Ethan Kendrick, and Jeremy Rogers.

Each performer chose a song that they would sing and be judged on. The top three winners were chosen and they each sang a second song. An overall winner was then chosen from the three at the end.

It cost $5.00 to get into Hillcrest Idol and all the money went towards the fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis. This fundraiser is very close to Hillcrest High School because it has affected two of our teachers. Mrs. Moss, who has Cystic Fibrosis, and Mr. Snyder, whose son has Cystic Fibrosis. Both are constantly fighting to breathe and to keep their life, so this is very important to them as well.

The judges, Giselle Gremmert, Landon Nipko, and Nicole Palmatier, decided final three contestants: Ryan Koon, Caroline Ciet, and Emma Thomas. There was also a special performance by Kami Loertscher, Lizzie Moss, and Andrea Vazquez. They sang a special rendition of “Thank u, next.”

After the final three performed, the judges released who the winner was.

“After two wonderful performances, we’ve decided our final winner is Ryan Koon,” announced SBO President Landon Nipko.

Here is a list of the performers and their songs.

Grace Zito: “Burn” from Hamilton the musical

Jeremiah Goates: “Cry Me a River” by Michaels Buble

Katie Seegrist: “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles

Ethan Kendrick: “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds

Makayla Whetsel: “Piece by Piece” by Kelly Clarkson

Chance Heise: “Daughters” by John Mayer

Jeremy Rogers: “Say you won’t let go” by James Arthur
