In Grand Slams the highest level of tennis is played. It is exciting for fans because all of the best players come to compete. These four tournaments are the last to hold five set matches for men whereas, all other tournaments are three sets.

Anything can happen at these tournaments for example in the 2018 US Open, Women’s Tennis number 1 Simona Halep lost in the first round to Kaia Kanepi who is ranked 61 in the world. The champion of these tournaments in singles gets about 2 million dollars and 2000 points toward their rank. Whoever has the most points is ranked number one.

The French Open is the second Grand Slam of the season played from May 26 to June 9. The French Open is also known as Roland Garros and is played in Paris, France. It is an exciting event to see the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, play his highest level of tennis. Throughout his career he has only dropped 2 sets and the open. He has 11 titles and is the defending champion from his match last year against Dominic Thiem.

Wimbledon was the first of these tournament to be created, with 1877 being the first year it was played. It is held in London, England and the last Grand Slam played on grass courts. In 2018, Novak Djokovic won the men’s championship and Angelique Kerber won the women’s championship. This year it will begin on July 1 and go through the 14. In 2019 Wimbledon will be implementing a new rule where a tiebreaker is played if the final set reaches 12-12

The US Open is the final Grand Slam of the year and is held August 26 to the 8 of September. It is held in New York, New York and is a popular place to see American celebrities.
