It’s no contest, the Hillcrest debate team is awesome.

They spent all of Saturday, February 23 arguing and speaking, all hoping to go to state. With students competing in every event from Impromptu Speaking to Lincoln Douglas, National Extemporaneous to Original Oratory, and Student Congress, Hillcrest had a lot of wins.

Students have been preparing all year to compete, putting in hours and hours of research and practice and preparation.

“Research, research, research. Practice, practice practice. Mini rounds, understanding the event you’ve entered, understand the rules of the event you’ve entered, creating cases, finding evidence. Itd very long, but it’s good for you,” says Cheryl Sneddon, the debate coach.

Its has been a lot of work for the team to get this far but their hard work has paid of in a big way. Everyone on the team qualified for state on March 8-9.

Sneddon says, “I’m always very proud of them, they’re just absolutely wonderful kids.”
