Super Bowl 54: Battle of newcomers and long-time champions

This year’s super bowl was a matchup of two newcomers from recent years the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco Forty-niners (14-4) for the Niners and (15-3) for the Chiefs. 

To advance to the Super Bowl the Chiefs beat the Titans in the AFC national championship with a score of 35-24. On the other side, the Niners beat the Packers 37-20 in the NFC national championship. 

Looking towards the Super Bowl the Chiefs brought to the table a high-powered offense led by their star Pro Bowl Quarterback Patrick Mahomes as well as a string of high-speed receivers and one of the best tight ends in the game right now Travis Kelce. Leading the league with 35.3 points per game, with the coaching scheme led with head coach Andy Reid.

On the other hand, the Forty-Niners are led by Jimmy Garoppolo as well as Raheem Mostart in the backfield. One of the many faces of the NFL in George Kittle a great all-around player and one of the best tight ends in the game. Not only is their offense formidable they have an outstanding defense led by Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, and Richard Sherman.

Talking leading up to this game has been minimal for both teams. They have been vocally letting people know that they will let their play do the talking on the field. 

It’s not just the teams and the football that people love about the Super Bowl this year the halftime show will be performed by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. As well as the National Anthem will be sung by Demi Lovato. The average commercial cost for a 15-second commercial this year will be around 3.4 million dollars. (per

The game started at 4:30 p.m. (Mountain Time). Kansas City won the kick-off. 

It started off very slow with the 49ers scoring a field goal and the Chiefs finally scoring the games first touchdown to end the first quarter. Likewise, during the 2nd quarter, the Chiefs had a field goal and the 49ers were able to get their first touchdown of the game ending the 2nd half with a score of 10-10. 

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performed during halftime. They provided an exhilarating and complete show of bringing multiple cultures together through music. They brought different genres from different countries and tied them all together with one-hit performance.

The second half kicked off with the Forty-Niners receiving the kickoff they scored a field goal and a touchdown pushing their lead to 20-10 to end the third quarter. The fourth quarter began and the Forty-Niners looked to push their lead and maybe finish the game however the tide turned.

The Chiefs scored two touchdowns making their lead 24-20 and then scored with one minute left to finish the game to become the Super Bowl 54 Champion!

Patrick Mahomes displayed a stunning performance of passing and rushing and was named MVP for the game. Head Coach Andy Reid was able to get his first Super Bowl victory and the first one for the Kansas City Chiefs in over 50 years.
