In 2018 John H. Schnatter, popularly known as Papa, the founder of Papa John’s Pizza found himself in the middle of a life changing controversy. Forbes magazine released an article in July of 2018 titled “Papa John’s Founder Used N-Word On Conference Call”.

The article details Schnatter’s use of the n-word during a phone call with Papa John’s executives and marketing agency Laundry Service. Schnatter’s defense for using the n-word was that he was trying to communicate his hostility towards racism. Nevertheless, this controversy led to Schnatter stepping down as chairman of Papa Johns.

In the last two years the company has done everything possible to separate itself from its founder and his use of the racial slur. Schnatter showed that he could not be silenced and would not go down without a fight. He claimed that the company purposely leaked the conference call to ruin his life and take his company away from him.

Recently Schnatter went onto the H3H3 Podcast to share his side of the story and to explain why Papa John’s Pizza has taken a big hit while he has been gone. The podcast has over 1.7 million views and is trending on YouTube worldwide. On the podcast Schantter shares that he believes Steve Ritchie, the current CEO of Papa Johns, had the agenda to kick him out all along.

The podcast also features Schnatter talking about his love life, pizza and his plans for the future. Schnatter seems to have redeemed himself on the H3H3 Podcast and is no longer cancelled.

“The folks at corporate had one goal, to keep their money and get John’s money,” said Schnatter.
