The 2020 Summer Olympics are approaching, and will hopefully be held in beautiful Tokyo, Japan

This year. skateboarding is making its debut in the Olympics. It is one of five sports added specifically for 2020, along with Baseball, Karate, Sports Climbing, and Surfing.

“The five sports are an innovative combination of established sports and emerging youth-focused events,” said Thomas Bach, IOC president, in a committee organizing the Olympic games.

There will be two separate events for skateboarding, the Street course, and the Park course, at the moment the Olympics are being postponed though.

Originally the street skateboarding competitions were be held on 26 and 27 July 2020, and the park skateboarding competitions will be held on 5 and 6 of August 2020.

The street course is categorized with the street skate culture, skating things such as ledges, handrails, and large gaps, while the park will be more bowl, and ramp oriented. The park competition is comprised of two rounds: prelims and finals.

According to the official Olympics website, in the prelims, 20 skaters from various countries will first compete in four heats of five skaters. The first eight skaters from the combined ranking of the heats will progress to the finals.

The official Olympic USA team for skating has still yet to be announced, but surely be announced in the future if everything goes to plan, much is still yet to be announced, but what is sure is that skateboarding will be there when it happens.
