Satan Shoes

Lil Nas X, also known as Montero Lamar Hill, has sparked controversy over his collaboration with MSCHF to release “Satan shoes.” The shoes are even known to have a pentagram on them and real human blood inside.

The biggest issue is that the company MSCHF took the Nike Air Max 97’ and put a pentagram and blood, with the Nike logo still on the side of the shoe. There have been boycotts from consumers and people are now thinking that Nike endorses satanism.

A lawsuit was filed on March 29, 2021. There were 666 shoes made and the company MSCHF is willing to refund any of the shoes that were bought. The biggest reason that there has been a lawsuit is that consumers think that this is a collaboration with Nike and Lil Nas X, which has in turn hurt Nike’s image and reputation. It is also a copyright issue.

MSCHF has caused controversy before with “Jesus shoes”, which were the same concept as the “Satan shoes”, except that there was a crucifix and it was filled with holy water. The shoes even were the same design as the Nike Air Max 97’.

Since Lil Nas X released the song “Montero (Call me by your name)” images with Satan in it, the shoes have been out since the first couple of minutes they were on the website. The shoe’s resale value has gone up since the popularity of the song.

Ever since news broke out about the lawsuit, Lil Nas X has since poked fun at it on Twitter stating that “Y’all keep streaming call me by your name so I can pay for this Nike lawsuit.”

Lil Nas X didn’t seem to care about the backlash caused by the music video and the shoes. The video and shoes were released a couple of days apart.

I don’t understand why people would want shoes with a pentagon or human blood in them, but I will say that this was a great marketing strategy for Lil Nas X. His video alone topped charts with the controversial images used. Adding shoes with the same theme as the video probably made them more popular.

Update, Lil Nas X started a rumor saying that the song was going to be removed by all streaming platforms on April 14. This wasn’t true at all and it gave him more streams.
