It is well known that Cleopatra is very famous in history, she was Egypt’s last queen even though she was Greek.

Her family was very unconventional, she was actually born as a product of incest. Her parents were Ptolemy XII, her father, and her mother, Cleopatra VI Tryphaena of Egypt. Her mother still remains one of the most mysterious queens in the history of Egypt. It is said that she disappeared around the same time Cleopatra became queen.

She and her brother Ptolemy XIII actually ruled over Egypt at the same time. He was the king and they were under the title of husband and wife.

They were married when Cleopatra was 18 and her brother was only 10 years old. All of this was done in an effort to keep their family bloodline pure, this gave them more power.

“Cleopatra descended from a long line of murderers and faithfully upheld the family tradition but was, for her time and place, remarkably well behaved.” (Schiff)

Not only was her family complicated, but they were also murders. They would kill people in their own families to have more power for themselves. Cleopatra actually helped in the murders of 2 of her siblings.

Cleopatra’s family was so obsessed with being powerful that they were willing to do almost anything to gain it.
