Through the non-profit organization Youth Making A Difference (YMAD), I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to go on a humanitarian trip to India, and you can too.

Throughout the program participants will be trained in many leadership values and be taught how to fundraise effectively. You will have to raise around $4,000 and will learn and grow a lot throughout the fundraising process.

Participants will be trained to teach English to people who have never heard it before, and then in India you will go to poor, rural areas and teach elementary age children. You will also do medical exams and donate many supplies to the schools and children.

I was amazed at how much I saw myself grow not only from my time in India, but from what I learned through the YMAD program. It was an experience that broadened my perspective and made me more independent.

So many lives were impacted by this expedition and it is amazing how something so insignificant can make such a significant difference. Malala Yousafzai said: “Let us remember one book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.” A motto I have gained from this trip is “Do small things with great love.” Despite how insignificant you think something is, if it is done with love it can make an absolutely significant difference.

If you are going to be a junior or senior in high school and would like to sign up for a YMAD Expedition, go to www.ymad.org to learn more.
