Tenzin Samdup has been a captain of the soccer team at Hillcrest for 2 years now and is on the Hillcrest Peer Leadership team. Tenzin was born in Tibet and grew up living in Nepal as a Tibetan refugee. When he was 9 years old his family decided to move to America.

He was young and very caught up in the excitement of moving to America that he did not stop to think about everything he was leaving behind. Tenzin would play soccer in the streets of Nepal and has always had a passion for it. He started to play organized soccer when he moved to the US and has stuck with it since.

Tenzin was chosen by his teammates to be a captain, not only this year but last year also. He is a leader on and off the field. He says “It feels good to have the responsibility, and leading other people is very important to help them carry out their future.”

Another team Tenzin plays a big role in at Hillcrest is the Peer Leadership Team. This is a club at Hillcrest that promotes an alcohol, drug, and violence free environment for the school and community.

Tenzin says he is enjoying life and is grateful for what he has; his team, his school, his friends, and the opportunities he receives. As for his plans after high school, Tenzin hopes to play soccer for a junior college such as Snow College or SLCC.
