For first time since 2006, Hillcrest has a region championship for the varsity tennis team. Varsity tennis doubles Tara sharp and Jessica Ulrich have been working together now for four years.

The tennis team were very excited and happy from their region championship.

“It felt greater than I imagined. We were undefeated in all our region games, but when we finished that last match and we were awarded our medals, it was such a proud moment, that’s when I knew that the last four years have paid off,” Sharp said.

The tennis team was super happy that they got this for them and for their school. The last time the tennis team has won the region championship was 11 years ago. Working with another person in a sports can be difficult. A team can have many problems, but these two have nothing to worry about.

Tara and Jessica have been playing together for four years now, so you’d think they have problems with each other.

“ Tara and I never get frustrated or angry when playing with each other. Every time we step onto the court we tell each other, ‘let’s just play some tennis and have fun.’ I couldn’t imagine playing with anyone else but my partner, Tara Sharp.” Ulrich said.

Together they took first place in their region with an undefeated record. They have been playing with each other now for four years, but that first year they played together Tara never had any experience with tennis.

“ I picked up my first tennis racket freshman year.”

That didn’t stop her. Jessica on the other hand is a more experienced tennis player and has now been playing for 10 years. They had many people help them along the way but the people that helped the most were Jessica Rimmasch and Anna Dallimore.

On Wednesday October 5, they competed in a state match against American Fork High School. They lost in a three set match. They took the first set, but American Fork came back and won the next two sets.

“ I’ve never felt that way after a match before. I played my best and so did Tara. We both have never played that well of a match that was that competitive, so it was the greatest experience that i could have ever had.”
