It’s Hispanic Heritage week are you ready? Hispanic Heritage week is the time to celebrate the contributions of the Hispanics culture and heritage. Hillcrest High school has a program called Latinos In Action ( L.I.A ). Which is full of students from all grades. These students further the knowledge of Latin culture and heritage to other students who are interested in the topic.

”Hispanic culture which range from education rights to the delicious hot cheetos that will have you have licking your fingers”, mentioned Sofia Herrera a senior at Hillcrest High School.

It’s a way for the Latinx community to show and interact with people that are not in the same culture as latinos.The Latinx community (Humble people, very family oriented, traditional values) is passionate, unbreakable, brilliant, but most importantly a big family.

“You would be very surprised what actually comes from Latinx culture for example the old cowboy looks come from our Mexican Vaqueros, and birth control yep thats Mexican as well” Paulina Vizcarra It is celebrated from September 15 to October 15 and honor the independence of five Latin American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua).

According to The Library Of Congress It was on June 11, 1986 California Congressman George E. Brown with 19 cosponsors introduced House Joint Resolution 1299, authorizing the president to proclaim annually the week including the 15 and the 16 of September as“National Hispanic Heritage Week”.

         The week is followed by a series of events during lunch for example:

Monday, May 9th: Herencia

Tuesday, May 10th: Musical Chairs      

Wednesday, May 11th: Arts & Crafts

Thursday, May 12th: Pin the tail on the Donkey   

Friday, May 13th: Baile
