Core classes, schedule changes and decisions are some of the things students have to go through when deciding their classes. There are two different options for students to choose from: Geography, or AP Human Geography. The are two different types of classes and they are both at different levels.

Courtney Roberts is a teacher at Hillcrest High School. She currently teaches both Geography for Life and AP Human Geography. There is a large difference between the two classes.

“AP Human Geography we just focus on human aspects, whereas Geography for Life we use physical geography” AP is a lot more challenging than Geography or Life, but in the end, it gives students a possibility at receiving college credit.

“As many hours that you are in class is what you should work on outside of class, whereas regular Geography might just have an hour a week total”, Roberts explained. The workload is a lot different compared to regular geography and it makes it a very rigorous course.

Luke Edson is a current freshman at Hillcrest High. He is taking AP Human Geography.  His teacher is Mr. Stucki. At the end of the class students are expected to take an AP test.

He’s most worried about, “studying and the vocab” for the test.

This test will give some students college credit, if you get a score of a 3, 4, 5,  or higher. Students in the regular geography class will not take the test, but they are taught similar things. When you apply for Hillcrest you go through a process on Skyward. You are given the options of classes available to you, and it shows what class goes with your grade. And for freshmen it then shows them the two options.“I took it (AP Human Geography) to challenge myself.”
