As winter sports come to a close, springs sports are just warming up. Baseball is no exception, as they have been working for over a month now. Baseball has been holding open gyms every Monday and Wednesday since January.

“I love the open gyms. They’ve gone really well. I feel everyone has progressed as ball players and it should make a big difference this season,” said Junior Jaysen Jensen.

Jensen also said, “I am very excited for tryouts. I feel the team is very strong this year, we’re very young and we have a good pitching staff. It’ll be fun to see how thing work out.”

The open gyms, however, are all but done. Tryouts started on Tuesday february 27th and will go for as long as Coach Daniels seems fit. At tryouts the player will mostly be put through positional drills to test their abilities.

“We will probably just take some ground balls and fly balls. Do some hitting. If you pitch you might throw a bullpen. If you catch they might see how you are as a catcher by doing drills,” said Junior Luke Reuschel.

Reuschel also said, “Yes. I am ready to get into baseball season and to throw stuff, and also to be with my baseball buds so I can work with them and get better.”

They went 8-18 last year, but have lots of young talent and are poised for a good year.
