Mass shootings throughout the years

Nearly Three hundred. School shootings that have taken place in the United States since 2013. On average, that is about one every week. We consistently are hearing about shootings that have taken the lives of students. It is getting to a point where parents are not feeling safe to send their own children to school.

The most recent shooting was Wednesday February 14th, at Parkland High School in Miami Florida. A 19-year-old boy named Nikolas Cruz went into the school and open fired at the students. The result of this shooting was 17 people were killed and 14 people were injured. This shooting has shocked the country, but yet again, this has become a recurring tragedy.

In 2018 alone there has already been 18 shootings and it is only February. People have conflicted views on the reasoning behind all of these shootings. Gun control is one of the main reasons behind this. The ability for kids to get their hands on guns seems to be increasing. Senators, legislators, republicans, democrats, etc. continue to bring up the problem with gun control, however, nothing has been done.

We continue seeing headline after headline in the news about school shootings, but nothing has been done.

In an article written by Amy Sherman from PolitiFact, she says “In Florida, state lawmakers have more often proposed bills to expand gun rights rather than restrict them. “

Congress is reluctant to change laws, but if they never do anything nothing is going to change. Instead, people are trying to expand gum laws which will not help. They are worried that once gun control laws change, their rights will be taken away, but that is not the case.

Something needs to be done. If we just sit around and continue to let this happen it will just get worse. More lives are being lost and hopefully sooner rather than later people will actually do something
