The Hillcrest High School soccer team is refreshed and revamped. With the hire of new coaches, Bret Davis, the team is hopeful. As a very experienced coach he is changing up the formations and mentality of the team.

“I really like him, he’s brought a new life to the team. I feel like everyone is buying into his plan and ideas. these first couple of weeks he’s definitely been pushing us but it’s been good for us as a team,” said senior forward Matt Lewis.

The Huskies took on the Westlake Thunder on Thursday, March 8th, night at home. It was the home opener for a young excited team, and they looked good!

Coach is still seeing what he has, and the team still needs to learn how to play with each other. However, there were some very bright spots for the team.

“The Mexican Duo” Josy Garcia and Gio Cisneros absolutely dominated the offense, with Cisneros assisting Garcia on the two goals of the game for Hillcrest.

“It’s pretty great, we get each other pretty well”, said Garcia when asked about playing with Cisneros.

Another bright spot was freshman defender Hilario Cruz. He was playing in his first varsity game as a freshman, and showed no signs of being a freshman. He played with confidence and knew he belonged out there. He also showed his great speed and skill.

“I feel great man, I got to meet new people. I’m excited to play with the whole team. I think I’m mostly good at defending and talking to the back four,” Said Cruz.

The 2018 season will be a great year for Hillcrest to find an identity and build on a solid senior core with great young players. There next game is March 12th at Bingham.
