One night a year, the Vocal Ensemble has a performance where they sing based off of a particular theme.

Daniela Zacarias, a Vocal Ensemble (VE) member, stated, “This year we have the theme of decades so we will be singing songs from a bunch of different eras.”

All VE members will be singing songs from different genres with some pieces even dating back to the 1920’s.

When asked about her favorite song from the show, Zacarias exclaimed, “My favorite song that we’re performing is probably “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman.”

This has been in the making throughout the year, but especially within the past couple of months, with Zacarias remarking, “We have been practicing for this since April.”

VE students practice every school morning in the choir rooms and usually also have an afternoon rehearsal as well.

The concert could be said to be a tradition for the Vocal Ensemble that can be compared to the Yearbook Stomp or end-of-year assemblies, since these events are highly anticipated and attendance is vital. The VE tradition has gone back to at least a year ago with a Broadway theme.

This year’s POP Concert will take place on June 1 at the auditorium starting at 7 p.m. with $5 per ticket. Come and support the Vocal Ensemble for their last performance of the school year. They have had a great season and have performed in New York at Carnegie Hall.

Zacarias concluded, “VE is a lot of fun! Be prepared for a lot of work but you’ll make friendships that’ll last you a lifetime and you get to learn a lot of cool music.”
