Lagoon is filled with many happy faces from the thousands of visitors everyday through June to October, but the animals are not included. Although many people are not aware of The Wild Kingdom Zoo in Lagoon, it is still an important and tragic issue that every visitor at Lagoon should be aware of.

Lagoon promotes its zoo as the second largest Zoo in Utah. It’s located on the west side of the park, and in order to see the animals you have to take the Wild Kingdom Train Ride. Lions, tigers, leopards, cougars, bears, are just some of the animals in The Wild Kingdom zoo.

It has over 60 wild animals and each of them are in tiny cages, with disgusting water bowls. And are rarely given any attention. If you ever find yourself at the tigers and lions cages, you will notice that they are constantly pacing.

In 2011, The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) claimed that Lagoon failed to give two leopards proper veterinary care, resulting in parasitic attention. In 2013, an animal keeper was hospitalized for being gored in the leg by a wildebeest. Lagoon had claimed they had no information on the incident.

There has more than 17 other incidents regarding improper care of the animals, yet nothing has been taken care of. So when will Lagoon take care of these issues? Why is it important to care about these animals and the state they are living in?

These animals, although they can’t communicate like the humans on this earth, they still live and breathe and feel like us. They matter, and they do not deserve to be treated poorly.

Luckily, a few years ago a petition was started to try and persuade Lagoon to close down their zoo. So far they already have almost 300,000 supporters, around 21,000 in Utah.

The next time you consider visiting Lagoon, remember how they mistreat their animals. Sign the petition to get lagoon to change how they treat these innocent beings.
